I think you're missing something important here. Ian posed for this picture, he clearly wanted it to be seen. He obviously chose to put the shirt on and have his photo taken, do you think he expected it to be hidden away in a closet - forgive the pun - somewhere? I think the goal of this photo is equivalent to the goal of Ian's shirt. It's telling people, rather, shouting at people, to look at Ian the person rather than Ian the homosexual. This photo is Ian's way of spreading that message further than the shirt alone could hope to manage. I somehow doubt the poster of this image was belittling Ian and much less homosexuals in general.
How hilarious. A photograph of an extremely talented actor - who happens to be gay - wearing a t-shirt which happens to be about gay rights. I've laughed so hard that I'm about to cough up my pancreas.
How do you get that this picture was posted by someone narrow minded? Seems like it was posted by someone that is a fan and found it funny and awesome that someone as successful and serious (and gay) as Ian McKellan would put on this silly shirt to make fun of and call out all those people that judge him for it. He seems happy in the picture to me, so he must think the shirt is funny, too.
There was nothing narrow minded about this post. Its not making fun of Ian. Its funny BECAUSE he is gay and his t-shirt succinctly describes how big of a deal it is not. This is funny in a "Good on ya!" sort of way.
the message on his shirt isn't the source of a narrow-minded person at all. it's trying to say that yes some people are gay and there's no changing that, so everyone--including those who are unfairly bias against gays--should accept that they are human like every one of us.
and yes, i think people should celebrate who they are. cheers!
I really feel as if it is the Homosexuals themselves that aren't over it.
I don't feel the need to parade about telling everyone I'm straight. I don't think it's a matter for the public honestly. What you do behind closed doors should stay exactly there. I don't care. I'm just sick of having people force it upon me. "Look at me! I'm gay! You can't say anything about it or I'll call you names! Get over the fact I'm gay! It shouldn't matter I'm gay! Why can't you let me be gay?!"
SHUT UP! I DON'T FUCKING CARE! NOW I'm pissed at you because you are being an asshole about it! SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!! Go be gay! Just SHUT UP!!!!
to play devils advocate, there is an "assumed straightness" to society where straight is neutral and if one does not "force it upon you" they will be invisible within society. Comparisons between the mainstream and an oppressed minority group can never be as simple as "I don't feel the need to parade about telling everyone I'm straight." because people ASSUME you are straight. please get over your straight privilege.
OH MY GOD, YES! I completely agree with you. Sure, I'm all for gay rights and gay marriage and all that, but seriously, I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE GAY. They don't need to be flaunting it all over the place! I'm proud of who I am just as much as they are, but it's not the only aspect of my personality...
uhh..what about all the shirts from abercrombie and fitch? or hollister? i can think of no better example of straight people shoving their sexuality down everyone else's throat.
There is still alot of homophobia in the world. Gay people DO NOT feel the need to parade their sexuality in public. However it is still frowned upon if two men hold hands in public, if they kiss/hug at a train station before parting. The point is being gay is not something that can be kept behind closed doors. The fact that you say this, just shows how little of an understanding you have, of the prejudice that the gay community faces. If a straight couple can show affection in public then so should a gay couple. It is not something to be ashamed of, it is not something to shield and protect your children from. It is a perfectly normal part of life.
Yay! I love you Gandalf!
am i actually the first!!!!!!??
No! I won't get over it. I will celebrate it every chance I get.
Not hilarious at all. Obviously this picture was posted by an extremely narrow minded person. Ian McKellen is GAY, he is also an ACTOR. Get over it.

how about Gandalf cast a dispel on Gaydalf and make everyone "normal"
Um you're an idiot, he's making a joke about himself being gay... if thou cant laugh at thyself thou cannot laugh at all

Get a sense of humor. I would be willing to bet he would find this funny. Gaydalf indeed.
so what? why are gays so insecure about themselves that they need to wear it on a tee shirt so that everyone knows. who the F cares?

That makes you gay.
Its the shirt that is funny. Nobody is making fun of Ian McKellen because he is gay.

Gandalf the Gay?
Shame on you for putting this up in a negative context. But I agree, go Gandalf, and go Ian!
Does anyone else see more of a gay Santa, especially with the colour choices?
Yo, this shit is icky for real. Ew!
what?? it IS hilarious because he is such a badass...
love whoever came up with gay gandolph

You win, Ian! Rock on!

oh yeah, you don't have any issues at all, nooooope

Umm, no? For a guy who doesn't feel the need, you sure did a good imitation. Or doesn't posting on the Internet count as "parading"?
the sound of one hand clapping? aka, you're talking to yourself again.
more importantly, does anyone know where that tee is available?
